Brighton-based Penguin Media Solutions has reignited Norwich’s Dead Wax venue for Laine Pub Company with a distinctive blend of vintage character and next-generation performance – powered by Linea Research amplification.

Following the team’s success at Dead Wax Brighton, Penguin’s Technical Project Manager, Dylan Thompson, once again drew on trusted partnerships and technologies to deliver a venue that celebrates both vinyl culture and live sound energy. The design merges Martin Audio’s new Blackline Q Series loudspeakers with the classic Screen 4 cinema cabinets, creating an unmistakably characterful system that looks as good as it sounds.
Behind the scenes, Linea Research’s 88C06 and 44C06 amplifiers form the backbone of the installation, driving a combination of Martin Audio and Optimal Audio loudspeakers across multiple zones – from the main bar and mezzanine stage to the outdoor areas. The amplifiers provide the precise control and consistency required for a multi-purpose venue, delivering clarity and headroom even under a heavy load.
“They provide power, consistency and the quality required in a solid package,” comments Dylan Thompson. “For installations, they’re the perfect go-to for us — and for any of the Martin portfolio that doesn’t require the extra processing the IKONs offer, the 44C and 88C series tick every box. Life’s been made even easier now the Martin Audio preset library’s available!”
The system combines Blackline Q12s flown landscape for the live area, a Q218 sub for low-end impact, and LE100 monitoring for stage performance. Blackline X8s with customised tweed grilles and brass badges deliver warmth and style in the ground-floor bar, while Optimal Audio Sub10s and Cuboid 3TXs extend coverage throughout the venue, all precisely powered and managed by Linea Research.
“The venue has delivered an overwhelming verdict,” adds Thompson. “It’s different from Brighton, but still music-centric and a perfect fit for Norwich’s creative scene. The Linea Research amps and Martin Audio loudspeakers together have produced something really special — powerful, musical, and full of personality.”
